FIFA lifts ban on Pakistan Football Federation after constitutional changes

adminBy adminMarch 6, 2025

FIFA has lifted its suspension of the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) following the federation’s approval of constitutional amendments mandated by FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). The PFF ratified these changes during an extraordinary congress in Lahore, fulfilling the requirements set by FIFA to restore its membership rights.

The suspension, imposed on February 6, 2025, stemmed from the PFF’s failure to adopt a revised constitution that would ensure fair and democratic elections within the organization. This was not the first instance of such action; the PFF faced suspensions in 2017 and 2021 due to governance issues and third-party interference. The most recent ban was lifted on March 2, 2025, after the PFF complied with FIFA’s directives.

The PFF expressed gratitude towards FIFA and the AFC for their continued support, stating, “We thank FIFA and AFC for their continued support of Pakistan football and extend our heartfelt congratulations to the Pakistan football community.” With the suspension lifted, Pakistan is now eligible to participate in international competitions, including the upcoming AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.

The PFF also announced the re-appointment of coach Stephen Constantine, who led the team to their first-ever World Cup qualifying round win in October 2023, for their match against Syria on March 25.

This development marks a significant step forward for Pakistani football, allowing the national team and domestic clubs to re-engage with the international football community.
