“Rani Mukerji’s Award Win Was Always Destined,” Says Director Ashima Chibber

adminBy adminAugust 7, 2025

In the aftermath of Rani Mukerji’s recent award triumph for her emotionally charged performance in Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway, director Ashima Chibber has come forward with heartfelt praise, calling the victory “destined” from the very beginning.

The film, based on a real-life story, saw Mukerji portray a mother battling an entire foreign system to reclaim custody of her children. Her stirring performance received critical acclaim, culminating in a string of nominations — and now, a prestigious win that the team calls “well-deserved and long overdue.”

Ashima Chibber, who directed the drama, shared her thoughts on the momentous occasion. “Rani’s commitment to the role was unlike anything I’ve seen. From day one, she internalised the pain, the anger, and the desperation of a mother wronged. I knew, deep down, that this wasn’t just a role — it was history in the making. Her award win was always destined,” Chibber said in a recent interview.

Chibber also highlighted how Mukerji’s ability to balance strength and vulnerability added layers to the character. “There were scenes where the entire set went quiet, overcome by her intensity. She gave the film its soul,” she added.

Rani Mukerji’s performance has sparked conversations around parenting rights, immigration policies, and maternal resilience. Critics have hailed the role as one of her finest, with many noting that she has once again proven her prowess as one of Indian cinema’s most dependable powerhouses.

As Mukerji continues to bask in the glory of her win, her director remains her biggest cheerleader. “It wasn’t just about acting — it was about embodying the truth. That’s what Rani did. And that’s why this award belongs to her,” Ashima concluded.

With this recognition, Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway stands tall not only as a cinematic achievement but as a testament to the synergy between a passionate storyteller and a fearless performer.
